Not Always So no. 1

$1,975.00

Sitting at a creek.
Painting a creek.
These simple actions embody a most essential practice--meditating on impermanence.

At the heart of my creek meditation and creative practice is a focus on the movement of life, a remembrance of the shadow and the light. When I bring awareness to impermanence and find a place of rest/gentleness even as life moves...I find peace.

This creek painting reminds me of the essential idea, "Not always so."

When I remember "not always so" the challenges feel easier to handle.

When life is beautiful, overwhelmingly, achingly so--then I think "not always so" and hear an invitation to be as present as possible--savoring this moment as fully as I can.

How does one phrase speak to the breadth of the human heart? No idea.
How does sitting by a creek, calm me without changing anything in my situation? No idea.
How does moving paints around awake in me a wonder and awe beyond imagination? No idea.

But I'm here for it.

Even as it changes.

These paintings reflect a practice to lean into "Not Always So" mindset. To find the comfort and gratitude tucked in these three words. To rest in the movement of water over rock, in the midst of flickering light that falls through dancing leaves, to let “Not Always So” be the salve one longs for.
