Peace Valley
Peace Valley
How do we find peace in the movement of life?
The forest has an incredible feeling of stillness and at the same time a gentle movement. This painting is inspired by a view from the trail around Galena Lake in Peace Valley park. The peaceful feeling is extended as you see the reservoir of water through the trees.
I notice in my life how these two contrasting elements bring peace: stillness AND movement. And yet other times these two elements bring me distress when stillness feels more like emptiness or loneliness, and movement feels more like chaos and loss. When I stop struggling against these moments in life, I return to the space I feel in the woods, and remember to befriend stillness and movement.
“Impermanence is a principle of harmony. When we don’t struggle against it, we are in harmony with reality.”— Pema Chödrön
